Guide to Holy Week / Semana Santa in Andalucia
Each procession has a short name and an official long ecclesiastical name representing a part of the Easter story. the processions are organised by the brotherhood associations. The processions usually consists of two pasos (thrones), two brass bands, members of the brotherhood; young and old and by invitation members of the local town council, police and other civic officials. The procession usually begins and returns to the church to which the brotherhood is associated and where the throne is displayed all year. In some cases the throne is transported to another chapel in advance so that in Holy Week it can return to its own church.
Semana Santa in Ronda is one of the oldest recorded in Andalucia. There are records from 1538, as the creation of the 'Ilustre y Santa Hermandad de la Veracruz, Sangre y Llagas de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo' brotherhood by the bishop of Málaga. There are also written references to Hermandad del Cristo de la Sangre in 1683.

On Holy Tuesday there is no official procession in the Holy Week of Ronda, however since 1974 a Via Crucis (a simple carrying of an image of Jesus on the cross) has been organised by the Agrupación de hermandades y cofradías (Association of brotherhoods and sisterhoods) of the city.

This procession is a highlight, two thrones and a Christ on the cross carried by soldiers of the Third Legion of Ronda.
Ecce Homo is latin for “Behold the Man” a theme prevalent in 15th to 17th century western Christian art. 'Ecce homo' was words of Pontius Pilate used to present Jesus of Nazareth to a hostile crowd who demanded the crucifixion of Jesus (John 19:5).
